He asked me to share five recommendations.

Here they are:

A piece of advice worth passing on
Seeing calmness as a superpower. To quote Steph Ango, the CEO of Obsidian: “Calm people seem to be more helpful, they seem to see the situation more clearly. Being calm is a form of optimism and confidence that you can get good at. It’s worthwhile to exercise.”

A video worth watching
Johnny Harris attempts to visit all 26 Swiss cantons in under 24 hours (starting at the 20m mark) using only public transportation, revealing a train system precisely synchronised, like a Swiss watch. A perfect example of how public infrastructure, built with vision and care, can become a form of freedom in itself.

A book worth reading
A Short Stay in Hell is a psychological horror novella by Steven L. Peck that explores time, meaning, and what it means to be human when faced with an impossibly large universe. The horror doesn’t come from monsters, but from the realisation of scale, making it existentially dark and psychologically disturbing. That’s exactly why it’s a fascinating read.
"I noticed the frontpage of your website is over 400MB. Is it also available as a CD-ROM?"
"Why John Smith is "positive and excited" about Oil.
The managing director says almost all their new business is coming from oil companies."

"Why Koto's Steph Hinds is so "positive and excited" about AI. The agency's managing director says almost all their new business is coming from AI companies."
What is punk?
Punk today is imagining that the future will be good.

What is even more punk?
A kid movie imagining that the future will be good.
I’m not worried about AI.
I’m already a machine at work.

HEY friends, a new post for you!!

Microsoft finally dropped the 'moonshot' metaphor it's used for its climate goals since 2020.

What the hell happened? And how it is still managing to skew its climate story using accounting tricks?

Have a read!! -->>

I had an absolute blast designing the titles and festival identity for @beyondtellerrand.com! I digged deep into my love and early inspirations of web 1.0 / 00's design aesthetics. I channeled David Carson, DesignisKinky, k10k, Designers Republic and more to make a fun, visuallyOTT set of designs!
Fascinating to see so many self-proclaimed "AI experts" when the tools and technology have been publicly available for less than 3 years.

Meanwhile, after more than 17 years of web design, I still have imposter syndrome.
When someone warns you of a potential danger and they're right, as Tristan Harris was years ago about social media, and the same person starts warning you of another potential danger, like AI, it's wise to listen.

"Generative AI reminds me of single-use plastic: no one asked for it, everyone lives fine without it."

Meta has just started activating its slop machine within Whatsapp across Europe

Generative AI reminds me of single-use plastic in terms of how it's being rolled out: no one asked for it, everyone lives fine without it, but a company will manufacture demand for it through sheer brute, bloody force

What if, instead of investing billions in AI, we built a European train network? Here is Starline, a vision by the think tank 21st Europe

Isn't that what we all need, rather than robots writing copy for LinkedIn?
Isn't this an truly exciting vision of our future?

Durable technology is such an important issue.

I still have my iPhone SE, which I bought in 2016.

I want to keep it forever.
I have no need for new features.
What I have is enough.

⚓️ New Article: Durable technology
In a world of generic templates and AI-generated designs, visual design is a superpower.

With new tools, anyone can create. But when everyone uses the same tools, it’s vision and craft that make the difference.

The demand for work that feels distinct, thoughtful, and human has never been higher.
